BAKERSFIELD, Calif-UC Riverside pitcher Matt Andriese tossed a complete game one-hitter as the Highlanders (18-14)       defeated CSUB (24-10) 2-0 Friday night at Hardt Field.

Andriese did not allow his lone hit, an Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula Vista, Bonita Vista HS) single, until the fifth inning. Andriese faced only two above the minimum (29). He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

A 'Runner error in the top of the third led to a two-RBI single from Trevor Hargrove.  The Roadrunners' best chance to score came in the seventh when Jeremy Rodriguez (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif., Crespi HS) reached on an error with one out. Rodriguez advanced to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch, but was stranded 90 feet from home by Hargrove who got the next two outs.

CSUB starting pitcher Mike McCarthy (R-Sr., Brentwood, Calif., Univ. of Redlands) went seven innings, allowing just five hits. McCarthy struck out six and walked two. Hargrove had three of those UCR hits including a double in four at-bats.

CSUB outfielders recorded two more assists during Friday's game, raising the Roadrunners' total to four for the two-game set. Sanay, the CSUB second baseman, threw out a Highlander runner in the sixth at home with the 'Runner infield was playing in.

Andriese's one-hitter was the fewest hits that CSUB has posted in a game in the 2+ year history of the program. The Roadrunners' previous low was three, which occurred twice during the 2009 season (Andriese was responsible for one of those three-hitters on Apr. 10, 2009). This was the quickest game in CSUB history at 1:41. The previous quickest game was 2:03 against Ohio State Mar. 26.

The series concludes Saturday at 1 p.m.
