COLUMBIA, S.C.--No. 4 South Carolina (10-1), the defending NCAA Division I Baseball National Champions, defeated No. 30 CSUB (11-4) 5-1 Mar. 11 at Carolina Stadium.

Jeremy Rodriguez (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif., Crespi HS) gave CSUB a first inning lead when his infield single drove in Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College).  Jackie Bradley, Jr. tied the game in the bottom of the frame when his single plated Adam Matthers.   South Carolina took the lead when a Roadrunner error allowed Bradley, Jr. to score.

Bradley, Jr. put the Gamecocks up 4-1 when he hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Bradley robbed DC Legg (Jr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College) of an extra base hit in the top of the seventh when he tracked down Legg's shot in the left center gap, bouncing off the fence for the defensive stop.

South Carolina pitcher Michael Roth retired 13 CSUB batters in a row at one point. CSUB threatened in the seventh. With two outs and baserunners on first and second, Roth struck out Mick Gaston (Jr., Quartz Hill, Calif., Quartz Hill HS) to end the inning.  The Gamecocks added an insurance run in the eighth on a CSUB passed ball.  Roth allowed five hits and struck out nine in eight innings.
CSUB outhit the Gamecocks 6-5. Roadrunners' starter Mike McCarthy (R-Sr., Brentwood, Calif., Univ. of Redlands) took
the loss. McCarthy went seven innings, striking out seven. Only two of the runs McCarthy allowed were earned. Bradley, Jr. was the only player on either team to have multiple hits as he was 3-for-3 with three RBI's.

The teams continue the series Saturday when first pitch is tossed at 1:30 p.m. (PST).
