SURPRISE, Ariz.-Cael Brockmeyer (Fr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) hit his first collegiate home run in the top of the 10th inning to lift CSUB (8-2) past No. 10 Arizona State (6-2) 2-1 Mar. 3 at the Coca Cola Classic.

The Runners took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when DC Legg (Jr., Murietta, Calif., Cypress College) doubled home Oscar Sanay (Fr. Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS). The Sun Devils tied the score in the bottom of the seventh when Austin Barnes singled in Deven Marrero.

Arizona State put two on with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but CSUB starter Tommy Hoenshell (Jr., Orange County, Calif., Cypress College) worked out of the jam to send it to extra innings, allowing Brockmeyer to put the Roadrunners ahead.

ASU threatened in the 10th when they put the first two runners on.  'Runner closer Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) got Johnny Ruettinger to line out to short for out No. 1. Zack MacPhee grounded out to first for the second out. Riccio Torrez was intentionally walked to load the bases. On a 1-1 count, Zach Wilson flied out to center to end the game.

Arizona State outhit CSUB 10-4, but Hoenshell got nine ground ball outs and struck out three ASU hitters. 78 of Hoenshell's 116 pitches were for strikes. Medina reset his own school record for most saves in a season with his third against ASU. Medina started the game at first base and recorded 11 putouts.

CSUB has now won seven in row entering Friday's action against Kansas at the Coca Cola Classic. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (PST) at the Texas Ranglers Complex.
