BAKERSFIELD, Calif--A day after head coach Bill Kernen announced his retirement upon the conclusion of the 2014 season, Taylor Aikenhead (Sr., Lancaster, Calif., Bakersfield College) tossed a three-hitter as Bakersfield (22-27, 13-9 WAC) defeated New Mexico State (18-26, 9-10 WAC) 13-1 Friday night.

After hitting Michael Medina, the first batter of the game, the 6-0 lefty set down the next 15 Aggies he faced before Kent Blackstone led off the sixth with a single to right center. Aikenhead gave up the lone Aggies' run in the top of the seventh.  Aikenhead struck out five while walking only one.

Six Bakersfield starters recorded at least two hits, with Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) and Allen Gwynn (R-Sr., Santa Paula, Calif., Ventura College) each going for three. Sanay had a pair of RBI's as well. David Metzgar (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete HS) was 2-for-3 with three RBI's and two runs scored.

The series continues Saturday with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
