BAKERSFIELD, Calif.— Mylz Jones’ (Fr., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the gamewinner as CSU Bakersfield (28-14) defeated Fresno State (13-25) 2-0 Tuesday night at Hardt Field.

FresnoState loaded the bases with one out in the third, but a CSUB 6-4-3 double play ended the inning. Bakersfield loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth, but Bulldogs’ starter William Munro worked out of the jam unscathed.

CSUB turned away Fresno State in the top of the seventh when Roadrunners threw a Bulldogs’ runner out at the plate to turn away a Fresno State threat.

Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) opened the bottom of the eighth with a double down the left field line. After a CSUB ground out and strike out. Bulldogs’ reliever Garrett Mundell intentionally walked Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) to get to Jones. With the count 2-2, Jones singled up the middle for the RBI. Jones and Brockmeyer moved up a base on a Mundell balk before Kevin Younger (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) was walked to load the bases. Mundell walked Chase Gusbeth (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) for the final run of the night.

Hayden Carter (So., San Diego, Calif., Vista HS), the third Roadrunner pitcher of the night, retired the Bulldogs in order in the ninth to pick up his second win of the year. Carter, Chuck Buchanan (R-Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., AllanHancockCollege), and James Barragan (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) combined on a five-hitter.

The Roadrunners travel to TexasState this weekend for a three-game WAC series. Friday’s game is set for 4:30 p.m. (PDT).
