BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield won a pair of matches on the final day of the 2017 regular season Saturday at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the SRC.
CSUB began the day with a 4-0 victory over Cal State L.A. Winning for the Roadrunners were Carol Grasso and Sara Little (No. 1), Jocelyn Rodriguez and Madi Busler (No. 2), Sarah Garrow and Ashley Prater (No. 3), and Ally Barber and Kayla Tinker (No. 4). All four Roadrunner teams won in straight sets.
CSUB concluded the day with a 5-0 exhibition victory over Bakersfield College. Rodriguez and Busler earned the first point of the dual for the ‘Runners, defeating Brooke Horack and Jourdan Muro 21-14, 2-13. Barber and Tinker completed the flight with a 21-14, 21-10 victory over McKenna Baaemeur and Savanah Cano.
The Roadrunners clinched the dual at No. 1 where Grasso and Little defeated Mackenzie Hernandez and Hannah Pope 21-11, 21-16. Garrow and Pratter earned the fourth point of the dual as they won at No. 3, 21-19, 21-19 against Alex Paris and Reece Stevenson. Fabiana Andrade and Hannah Manzanares defeated Kelsey Henderson and Haley Sanchez at No. 5 21-14, 21-17 to complete the dual.
"We played consistently, executing most of the skills we've been working on this season," said CSUB head coach Cesar Benatti. "That was the best way to finish the regular season and prepare for the Big West Tournament. We will have to pull our best game next week, and after this weekend we feel ready to do it."
Bakersfield College defeated Cal State L.A. 3-1 in the middle dual of the day.
The Roadrunners will enter the Big West Tournament next weekend. Friday’s play begins for the ‘Runners at 11 a.m. CSUB will be the No. 6 seed and will likely face Cal Poly in the first round at Pismo Beach.
