BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- Recently-released NCAA men's basketball attendance figures from the 2016-17 season ranked CSU Bakersfield 13th among NCAA Division I teams in average-fan attendance increase from a season ago.

CSUB increased attendance from 1,657 per game in 2015-16 to 2,685 per game in 2016-17, which included four sellouts of the Icardo Center. The ‘Runners were one of just 14 teams nationally to increase attendance by more than 1000 fans last season with their 1,028 per-game increase.

CSUB made the top-15 with the likes of UCLA, Oregon, Villanova, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and Florida.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our program and ultimately the credit goes to the city of Bakersfield and Kern County,” Director of Athletics Kenneth ‘Ziggy' Siegfried said. “We have continually said what separates us from other schools is we have a stronger community. This ranking further quantifies what we have thought all along.”

The Roadrunners attendance was also a factor in helping the Western Athletic Conference to the 13th-highest attendance rate among 32 NCAA Division I conferences. WAC games on average had an attendance of 2,969 fans per game. That number does not include Grand Canyon, who was in their final reclassification year in 2016-17, the NCAA does not count reclassifying teams' numbers in the attendance figures.

With the success of CSUB men's basketball including the WAC Tournament Championship in 2016 and resulting NCAA Tournament appearance, last season's WAC Regular Season Championship and run to the NIT semifinals, the ticket demand for CSUB basketball has reached a new level. Nearly all reserved chair back seats for the upcoming season have been sold and special “reserved bleacher” sections have been created.
