BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner men’s golf team is set for its final tune-up before the Western Athletic Conference Championships. CSU Bakersfield is headed to the Central Coast for the Cal Poly Shootout at Cypress Ridge Golf Course, Apr. 17-18.

“The team is looking forward to participating in Cal Poly's event this next week,” said Meggan Bunker, Head Coach of the ‘Runners. “Two years ago in this event, we did very well in the Match Play setup at the same course. Although it is stroke play this year, we are looking to make this tournament successful again.”

Bunker went on to talk about the team’s preparation for the WAC Championships: “We have been practicing hard for this event, gearing up for Conference the week after. It will be nice to have one more match to show our efforts and warm up for Conference coming up. I believe the team is going to play well in this event, and I am excited to watch the next couple weeks unfold.”

CSUB is sending its squad of senior Izzad Ibrahim, juniors Garry Cai and Nathan Green, and freshmen Warren Miller and Dominick Hoover. Green leads the team with a scoring average of 75.45 strokes per round. Hoover is just under one stroke back at 76.43 strokes per 18 holes this year.

The Cal Poly Shootout will feature a unique setup as the tournament will forego the traditional five-count-four format and use six-count-five, giving more student-athletes a chance to showcase their talents on the Central Coast. The field will feature nine teams including four squads from the Big West Conference.

The tournament will still feature the normal 54 holes with two rounds of golf played on Monday, Apr. 17, and one final round on Tuesday, Apr. 18. The course plays as par 72 over 6,815 yards. Monday’s first round is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. while Tuesday’s finale is set to begin at 8 a.m. Live stats will be available for the tournament via
