BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2016-17 season was another banner year for the CSU Bakersfield cheerleading team as the squad brought home the 2017 PPAACC College Cheer Division Championship on Saturday, Apr. 1.

Guided by their coach, Arthur Smith, the cheerleading team was the sole representative of CSUB's spirit programs at this year’s PPAACC Championships. The victory is the spirit program’s third-straight first-place finish at the PPAACC championships. The cheerleading squad took the 2015 crown and winterguard won a title a year ago.

CSUB's performance at Centennial High School was the squad's final performance for the 2016-17 season. The Roadrunners kept a busy schedule this year, cheering at all home men and women’s basketball games, participating in National Girls & Women’s Sports Day, and CSUB Education Day along with performing in local holiday parades. The cheerleading team also traveled to the 2017 Western Athletic Tournament for basketball in Las Vegas and to New York City for the men’s basketball 2017 National Invitational Tournament.

Interested high school seniors or college-age athletes are encouraged to attend upcoming tryout sessions for the 2017-18 season. Tryouts will be held May 19 and 20 on CSUB’s main campus. For additional information, please contact Arthur Smith at 661-654-3449 or asmith68@csub.edu.
