DAVIS, Calif.—No. 24 CSU Bakersfield competed on Saturday in day one of the 37th annual UC Davis Aggie Shootout.

CSUB defeated Sonoma State 15-9 in the opening match. Leading 2-1, the Roadrunners used a five-goal second quarter to break open the game. CSUB scored four goals in the third and four more in the fourth.

Lindsey Paulson recorded her first career hat trick to pace the ‘Runners. Tancy Aldridge, Ashley Paz, and Ruby Versfeld each scored two goals for the ‘Runners. Paulson and Katie Benson each charted three steals. Courtney Wahlstrom made eight saves in goal for the Roadrunners.

“We played great first half defense,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. “Our counter attack started to click as eight of our goals were in transition. Lindsey played a great game on both the offensive and defensive ends of the pool.”

The Roadrunners dropped a 10-8 decision to No. 11 Pacific in match two of the Aggie Shootout. The Tigers went up 4-0 after one and held off a furious CSUB rally. Gabby Wiltse, Nicola Barrett, and Jada Helberg all posted two goals for the Roadrunners. Wahlstrom tallied nine saves.

“We can’t spot a good team four goals,” Gall said. “Once we got on the scoreboard, we started to play with better focus. One thing that is standing out is that we multiple scoring weapons. Five of our eight goals in this game came off our bench, so that is a huge advantage for us.”

The Roadrunners face Occidental (9 a.m.) and No. 12 UC Davis (12:30 p.m.) on Sunday to complete tournament play.
