BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- CSU Bakersfield President Dr. Horace Mitchell and Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Thomas Wallace have appointed Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried as Interim Athletics Director for CSUB Athletics following the resignation of Jeff Konya earlier this week.
Siegfried, who currently serves as CSUB’s Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations will oversee the department while a national search for Konya’s replacement begins. Konya announced his resignation on July 7th to become the Director of Athletics at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
“I have confidence in Ziggy’s ability to manage the department’s operations while we complete the search for a new Director of Athletics,” Wallace said.
Siegfried was named the Senior Associate Athletics Director for CSUB Athletics in March of 2012. In this role, he oversees all aspects of fundraising where in the last two years he has helped set new records for the Roadrunner Scholarship Fund and helped the department raise over $2 million during the 2013-14 fiscal year. Siegfried had previously been the sport administrator for men’s and women’s golf and currently provides sport oversight for men's soccer and softball. Siegfried’s role also included oversight of marketing while he worked closely with Konya for the last few years and would manage the Athletics Department in his absence.
Siegfried arrived in Bakersfield from the University of Memphis where he worked for eight years. During his time in Memphis he held various positions including serving on the Senior Staff in the Athletics Department and also serving as the Senior Director of Development for the Fogelman College of Business & Economics.
“I’m so excited about the future of CSU Bakersfield Athletics and I am honored in the confidence that has been placed in me by Dr. Wallace and Dr. Mitchell,” Siegfried said.
Siegfried will work with Konya in the coming weeks to help transition the department during the summer months. Konya’s last day at CSUB will be August 4th.
