CORVALLIS, Ore.--Oregon State defeated Bakersfield 80-49 in women's basektball action Monday night.
Bakersfield shot 24 percent from the field, 11 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Beavers connected on 39 percent from the floor, 23 percent from beyond the arc and 70 percent from the charity stripe. Oregon State also out-rebounded the Roadrunners 59-37.
Tyonna Outland (R-Jr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) led the Roadrunners (0-2) with 20 points, while Batabe Zempare (So, Accra, Ghana, Scottsdale Chapparal HS) posted her second career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Deven Hunter led Oregon State (2-0) with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Syndey Wiese was the only other Beaver player in double figures as she had 10.
"Oregon State used their size advantage and were able to control the offensive glass," said Bakersfield head coach Greg McCall. "We held them to 39% shooting, but they were able to get second and sometimes third chances which killed us."
The Roadrunners open the home slate next Wednesday when Bakersfield hosts Concordia-Irvine at 7 p.m.
