BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield wrestling team will host Cal Poly to open Pac-12 action Thursday night. The dual is set for 7 p.m. The 'Runners will then send members of the squad to the Fresno City College U21 Tournament Saturday in Fresno. The tournament will run all day.

The Roadrunners defeated the Mustangs in a non-conference dual 27-13 Nov. 8, 2012 in Bakersfield before handing Cal Poly a 22-10 defeat in the conference meet in SLO on Jan. 12, 2013. CSUB leads the all-time series 27-18-2. 

The Mustangs feature two former conference champions in the starting lineup. Dominic Kastl, who won the Pac-12 title at 165 pounds two years ago, was sidelined last season with a lower back injury. He moves up to 174 pounds this year. Devon Lotito claimed the conference crown at 133 pounds last March en route to a 29-9 record for the season.

Two Bakersfield wrestlers won titles to highlight the Roadrunner stint at the San Francisco State U21 Open Nov. 3. All of the Bakersfield entries competed unattached and there were no team scores.

Spencer Hill (R-Jr., Clovis, Calif., Fresno City College) defeated teammate Hunter Hodges (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) 16-5 in the finals of the 157-pound class. Hill won four matches matches by a score of 36-15 and had one pin.

Adam Fierro (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), who is taking a redshirt in 2013-14, won the 165-pound title. Fierro won three matches, two by technical fall. He defeated Justin Lozano in the finals 5-2.

Matt Correa (R-Jr., Santa Maria, Calif., Cuesta College) placed third at 125 pounds. Correa lost his first match before winning the next three on the docket including a 11-2 decision over Clakamas CC’s Josh Johnson in the third place match. Sean Pollock (R-Jr., Oceanside, Calif., Rancho Buena Vista HS) went 2-2 to finish fourth at 184 pounds. Reuben Franklin (Jr. Murrieta, Calif., Vista Murrieta HS) was 2-2 at 197 pounds to earn a fourth place showing.
