BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield women's basketball team opens the 2013-14 season this weekend with a pair of games in the state of Oregon.

The 'Runners take on Oregon on Saturday night to begin the season. Tip is set for 7 p.m.

The Roadrunners defeated the Ducks 82-78 on Nov. 27, 2010 in Eugene in the only previous meeting between the two schools in women’s basketball. The Ducks have won a pair of exhibition games in the preseason. Led by former NBA coach Paul Westhead, Oregon scored over 100 points in both contests (103-58 vs. Western Oregon, 116-51 vs. Oregon Tech).

Oregon went 4-27 last year, finishing 12th in the Pac-12. Jillian Alleyne, who averaged a double-double of 13 points and 11.9 rebounds a game a year ago, leads Oregon into this season.

Bakersfield then travels to Oregon State for a Monday night matchup that begins at 6 p.m.

The Beavers lead the all-time series against the ‘Runners 4-1. Oregon State defeated Bakersfield 71-48 last season in Corvallis. The teams have played in each of the past four seasons. Oregon State defeated Saint Martin’s 100-3 in an exhibition game Nov. 2. The Beavers will host Corban on Friday night before taking on the Roadrunners.

Oregon State went 10-21 last season, finishing 10th in the Pac-12. Seven letterwinners and three starters return, led by Jamie Weisner who averaged 12.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

The Roadrunners are 2-11 all-time against the Pac-12 with both wins coming against this week’s opponents.

Redshirt junior Tyonna Outland (Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) starts the 2013-14 campaign 10th in career scoring at Bakersfied. The 5-9 guard has scored 824 points in her career which includes 2011-12 in which she took her medical redshirt due to a knee injury.

176 away from 1,000 career points, Outland is 66 away from ninth place Katie Williams (2008-10). Katie McElree (2002-06) is the ‘Runner career leader in scoring with 1,796 points.
