DAVIS, Calif.--UC Davis (8-5) defeated Bakersfield (7-6) 3-1 in volleyball action Sunday afternoon.
The Roadrunners took set one by a 27-25 count. The Aggies won the next three (25-23, 26-24, 25-18) to earn the victory. Kelsee Sawyer (So., Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) led CSUB with a career high 22 kills . Sawyer did not record a hitting error until set three and would hit .333 for the match (22-4-54). Sawyer also registered her first career double-double with a career best 14 digs. Her 54 attempts were also a career high.
Molly O'Hagan (Jr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) tied her career high with 19 kills. O'Hagan hit .447 for the match (19-2-38). Debora Araujo (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) added 13 kills.
Fernanda Gonçalves (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) had a double-double of 38 assists and 10 digs. Lisa Bartsch (Sr., Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta State) added 21 assists. Mariah Alvidrez (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) tied her career high with 28 digs.
"We are learning to play a big game and some fun battles with Davis," said Bakersfield head coach Jolene Shepardson. "We are looking for some consistant play from a couple of key positions."
The Roadrunners open Western Athletic Conference play next week with a three-game road trip to Seattle U Thursday (7 p.m.), Idaho Saturday (7 p.m.), and New Mexico State Monday (7 p.m. MDT).
