DAVIS, Calif.--Bakersfield won the Copa de Causeway Tournament Sunday night by defeating UC Davis 2-0 at Aggie Field. 

Eduardo Caldaza (So., South Los Angeles, Calif., Roosevelt HS) broke the seal in the 37th minute when he converted on a one-timer from Lucas Dall'Orso (Jr., Orange County, Calif., JSerra Catholic HS) from two yards out. Caldaza connected again, this time at 52:38, to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead. Dall'Orso and David Velasquez (R-Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., Locke HS) earned the assists on the play.

For the second consecutive match, 'Runner goalie Anthony Perez (R-So., Fontana, Calif., Bloomington HS) turned away an opponent penalty kick.UC Davis held a 25-12 advantage in shots, Perez tallied a save on each of the six Aggies' shots on goal.

The Bakersfield first half goal was the first by either team in the series since the 2010 season. The teams played to scoreless double-overtime ties in 2011 and 2012. The Roadrunners defeated Sacramento State earlier in the week in Sacramento to be in a position to take home top honors at the Copa de Causeway Tournament.

Caldaza, Alex Flores (Jr., Sylmar, Calif., Birmingham Community HS), Joe Masumiya (R-Jr., Lakewood, Calif., Lakewood HS), and Dante Niño (So., Reseda, Calif., Birmingham Community HS) were all named to the All-Tournament team.

"It's fantastic to get two road wins and earn a tournament championship with this young team," said Bakersfield head coach Simon Tobin. "We played some excellent attacking soccer and kept another clean sheet (a shutout)."

Bakersfield is at defending national champion Indiana next Friday night for an 8 p.m. (EDT) start. The Hoosiers are ranked eighth in DIvision I heading into next week. Next Sunday will see the Roadrunners at No. 7 Louisville for a 5 p.m. (EDT) start.
