BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Bakersfield head coach Crissy Buck-Ziegler has announced the addition of two to her coaching staff.

Courtney Martinez joins the Roadrunners as an assistant coach from Azusa Pacific where for the past two seasons she assisted in all recruiting aspects of the Cougars' program. Martinez specialized in infield and hitting instruction for Azusa Pacific. Martinez also served as an athletic compliance assistant and as the assistant supervisor for the Azusa Pacific Student Athlete Advistory Committee.

Martinez also served as a volunteer assistant at Azusa Pacific for the 2011 season. A 2009 graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Martinez started 217-of-224 games during her four-year career with the Titans. She helped lead Fullerton to the 2007 NCAA Tournament in which the Titans advanced to the Super Regionals. A second team All-Conference selection as a senior, Martinez ranks in the top-10 at Cal State Fullerton in triples, sac flies, sacrifice hits, and fielding assists.

Martinez began her coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Cal State Fullerton in 2010 before playing professionally in the Italian Federation Softball League in 2011.

"Courtney brings a very solid and strong coaching philosophy for such a young coach," Buck-Ziegler said. "How she coaches on the field is important, but it is what she brings to our program from a mental developmental stand point that was most impressive for me.  I believe she is going to be a great asset to our program, especially as we venture into the WAC."

Helen Peña joins the coaching staff as a graduate assistant. Peña will served as the Roadrunner pitching coach. Peña is a 2011 graduate of Cal Poly where she earned All-Conference honors in 2008 and was named second team All-Conference in 2009. In 2009, she was second among all Big West Conference pitchers in ERA (1.49). She ranks third in Cal Poly in history in career saves and is sixth in Mustangs' history in career strikeouts and career victories.

Peña began her coaching career as a student assistant for Cal Poly in 2011 before moving into a volunteer assistant position for the 2012 season. She worked with the Mustangs' pitchers and outfielders during practice and games. Peña has also served as an assistant coach with 16U Aftershocks travel ball team in Paso Robles, Calif. (2010).

"Helen's competative mindset will not only help our pitchers, but our hitters as well," Buck-Ziegler said. "As former All-Conference player in the Big West, Helen understands the demands that a young pitcher goes through and knows how to get them in a better place mentally as well as physically.  Our pitchers are going to benefit from her knowledge and work ethic."
