DENVER, Colo.--Bakersfield dropped the 2013 men's soccer season opener to Denver 4-0 Sunday night.

Blair Jeralds and Zach Bolden scored goals in a three-minute span in the first half as the Pioneers took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Cole Chapelski converted a penalty kick for Denver in the 51st minute. Jack Henderson completed the scoring in the 83rd minute for the Pioneers. Denver improves to 1-1 on the season.

"We started five players that didn't start last year and it will take some time," said Bakersfield head coach Simon Tobin. "We played poorly and Denver played well."

The Roadrunners begin a swing through Northern California Friday when Bakersfield travels to UC Davis for a 7 p.m. tilt.
