BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Bakersfield head men’s soccer coach Simon Tobin has announced the 2013 schedule, the first for the Roadrunners in the Western Athletic Conference.

A matchup against defending national champion Indiana (Sept. 13) highlights the non-conference slate for the Roadrunners. Bakersfield will complete the Indiana trip with a stop at the University of Louisville (Sept. 15), a program which reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

The ‘Runners will face a third team that made the 2012 NCAA Tournament in South Florida (second round) on Oct. 1.

Other non-conference foes include road matches at Denver, Sacramento State, and UC Davis. The first non-conference home match is Sept. 19 when UC Riverside comes to the Main Soccer Field. A second non-conference home match will be added at a later date.

The Roadrunners open its inaugural season in the Western Athletic Conference by facing UNLV Oct. 5. The WAC should look very familar to Bakersfield as six former MPSF teams (Air Force, CSUB, Houston Baptist, San Jose State, Seattle U, UNLV) join UMKC and Grand Canyon in the newly-formed conference. 10 conference matches will culminate in the Nov. 14-17 league tournament at Air Force.

“The 2013 schedule is possibly the toughest in the history of the program, highlighted by the trip to current NCAA Champions Indiana,” Tobin said. “I have really enjoyed our first three years at the D-1 level, and always seek the toughest competition for our program. We have established ourselves as a very competitive team, and hope to build on a solid platform created by some departing players. The challenge is to become a regular top 20 team, and this can only be achieved by playing the best teams in the country.”
