BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Bakersfield director of swimming Chris Hansen announced the 2013-14 men’s and women’s swimming schedules June 18. The Roadrunner men join the CSUB women as the team moves from the MPSF into the Western Athletic Conference.

“We are super excited to have both teams in the WAC this year,” Hansen said.

The Roadrunners open the season with a tri-dual dual against WAC opponents Grand Canyon and Seattle Oct. 19. The teams will have combined duals at Pacific (Oct. 26), at Fresno Pacific (Nov. 2), and at Cal Baptist (Dec. 14). Bakersfield hosts California in a men's Feb. 7. The Bears’ men finished second at the 2013 NCAA Division I Championships.

Both teams will take part in a Jan. 11 competition that will have the men facing off against UC San Diego with the women hosting a quad-dual with the Tritons, Alaska-Fairbanks, and Loyola Marymount. Both teams will take part in a tri-dual at UNLV with Air Force Jan 25.

The ‘Runner women will have single duals at home against San Jose State (Jan. 3) and UC Davis (Jan. 18). CSUB travels for a single dual at Fresno State Jan. 4.

“The men will be competing against new WAC rivals, UNLV, Air Force, Grand Canyon and Seattle - all tough teams as well as hosting 2013 NCAA runner-up Cal Berkeley,” Hansen said. “This is by far the toughest schedule the men have seen since I have been here. 2013-2014 captains Fran Cverle and Dane Oleson will need to get this young team ready to compete against some of the best teams in the NCAA.”

“The women will also see some WAC rivals in Grand Canyon and Seattle as well as MPSF powerhouse UC Davis and Mountain West champions UNLV,” Hansen continued. “Last year, we had the strongest schedule the women have seen in many years, this year will be even tougher. We are going to be solid.  Jacelyn Youngerman, Dylana Milobar and Paola Hernandez added the depth we were missing this year, not to mention the points we will get from Divers Carlee Burks and Melissa Gore. The women will continue to shock people.”
