FRESNO, Calif. - In their last tuneup of the regular season, the CSU Bakersfield men's and women's track and field teams posted seven personal-best marks and six season-best marks with sophomore Alyssa Page (Santa Rosa, Calif., Montgomery HS) leading the way with first-place and third-place finishes at the Fresno State Bulldog Invitational on Saturday.
Page clocked a 58.24 in the 400 to win the race and then took third in the 200 with a time of 24.63. Page teammed up with Taevionna Wilson (So., Antioch, Calif., Antioch HS), Jamara Scott (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Golden Valley HS), and Dominique Alexander (So., Bakersfield, Calif., South HS) in the 4X100 relay, where the 'Runners set a season-best time of 48.01 seconds to place second.
Scott took first place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.81. Also turning in impressive performances for the CSUB women were Gabrielle Giuliano (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 112-09.
Leading the way for the CSUB men were Karnell Grimes (R-So., Rosamond, Calif., Rosamond HS), who posted a season-best toss of 169-06 in the javelin to take third place in the event and Derek Stotler (So., Vista, Calif., Rancho Buena Vista HS), who placed second in the 1,500 with a 4:14.54. Matt Turkington (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) also posted a season-best time of 22.56 to place fourth in the 200.
Now the 'Runners will prepare for the Great West Conference Championships May 3-5 in Houston, Texas.
