PROVO, Utah - Sophomore second baseman Adrianna Cardoza (Santa Anna, Calif., La Quinta HS) hit two-run double and redshirt senior center fielder Laura King (Camarillo, Calif., UNLV) had a hit an scored another run to help the CSU Bakersfield softball team defeat BYU 3-1 in Game 2 of their Pacific Coast Softball Conference doubleheader on Saturday.
In Game 1 on Saturday, the Cougars (23-25, 15-5 PCSC) beat the Roadrunners 8-5. CSUB ends the PCSC portion of its season wtih a 10-14 record and its is 15-32 overall.
In Game 2, CSUB sophomore pitcher Kelsie Monroe (Los Banos, Calif., Delta College) was solid in the win, pitching 6.2 innings and only giving up one run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts. CSUB scored two runs in the fourth inning and never gave up the lead.
Junior third baseman Madison Bundy (Anacortes, Wash., Oregon State) scored two runs. CSUB still managed to get the win despite only getting two hits. The 'Runners got help from seven walks.
In Game 1, CSUB jumped out to a 3-0 lead after four innings. BYU bounced with four runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Cougars added four more runs in sixth inning. Despite two more runs from the 'Runners in the seventh inning, BYU hung on to the win.
Junior left fielder Karissa Veiga (Hemet, Calif., Hemet HS) went 2-for-4 with a double and one run. Freshman right fielder Sydney Raeber (Hanford, Calif., Hanford HS) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while King had one hit and two RBIs. Junior shortstop Shay Fryer (San Diego, Calif., University HS) went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Cardoza scored two runs.
CSUB will conclude the 2013 season with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 4, at UCLA.
