SAN MARCOS, Texas--Texas State (19-23, 10-7 WAC) evened up the Western Athletic Conference series Saturday as the Bobcats defeated Bakersfield (29-15, 12-5 WAC) 5-2.
With the scored tied at two in the seventh, the Bobcats took advantage of three consecutive walks to open the inning. Andrew Stumph’s sac fly gave Texas State a 3-2 lead. A CSUB error on the play advanced the runners to second and third. With two outs, the Bobcats’ pinch-hitter Austin O’Neal drove in a pair of runs with a single.
Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) broke the seal for the Roadrunners when drove in Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) with a single in the top of the first. The Bobcats took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. The ‘Runners tied the score in the top of the fourth on an unearned run.
Brockmeyer and Sanay both had two hits. CSUB outhit Texas State 7-6. The series concludes Sunday. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. (PDT).
