Hermosa Beach, Calif. – After going 1-2 in team play with a win over Loyola Marymount on Saturday at the USAV Hermosa Beach Collegiate Challenge, the CSU Bakersfield sand volleyball team competed in the pairs portion of the tournament on Sunday with two duos recording victories in the season finale of the program’s inaugural year.

In the Silver Bracket, which showcased No. 3 and No. 4 pairs teams from all eight teams in the tournament (CSUB, No. 2 Long Beach State, No. 4 USC, No. 1 Pepperdine, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, Hawai’I and UCLA), CSUB’s Molly O'Hagan (So., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) and Lisa Bartsch (Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta St.) beat the No. 4 team from Santa Clara 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) in the first round. In the second round, the ‘Runners lost to the No. 4 squad from Long Beach St. 2-0 (21-8, 21-10).

In the Bronze Bracket, that pitted all the No. 5 pairs teams against each other, the Roadrunner duo of Kelsee Sawyer (Fr., Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) and Star Tucker-Campbell (Moorpark, Calif., Moorpark HS) lost to USC’s No. 5 team in the first round,  but ended the year with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) win over Long Beach State’s No. 5 pair.

CSUB also had two pairs teams in the Gold Bracket, for No. 1 and No. 2 pairs, and another in the Silver Bracket, all went 0-2 in the tournament featuring some of the top teams in the country.

The tournament concluded CSUB’s historic first season. The Roadrunners finished the campaign with a 5-7 team record.
