BREMERTON, Wash. – Capping off an impressive freshman campaign, CSU Bakersfield women’s golfer Jordanne Barr (Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) led the Roadrunners by finishing in 22nd place in CSUB’s first-ever appearance in the West Coast Conference Championship on Wednesday at Gold Mountain Golf Club.
Barr, one of four freshmen on the team without a senior this season, carded a three-day total 242 (78-83-81). Barr had four birdies in the tournament. Fellow freshman Michelle Martel (Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) tied for 26th place with a 254 (85-84-85). Junior Malea Miller (Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College) took 28th place with a 261 (91-85-85), while sophomore Micah Lopez (Bakersfield, Calif., East Bakersfield HS) took 29th by shooting a 265 (88-93-84) and freshman Lexi Keeter (Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) posted a 272 (92-89-91).
The tournament marked the first and last season the Roadrunners will play in the WCC as they are headed to the Western Athletic Conference next year.
For the 14th time in 16 years, the Pepperdine women's golf team captured the 2013 West Coast Conference Golf championship. Waves' junior Grace Na captured her second individual title in three years.
The Waves shot a +19 over 54 holes to win the women's title by 17 strokes over Gonzaga. Both Gonzaga and Pepperdine shot a 301 on Wednesday's final day of competition. Third place BYU turned in a three-day score of 928, including a score of 307 on Wednesday.
Grace Na, the women's individual champion, is the WCC Player of the Year for the third consecutive time. Gonzaga's Raychelle Santos, who shot a 71-73-71-215 at the 2013 Championship to finish just two strokes off of Na's pace, is the WCC Freshman of the Year. Gonzaga's Brad Rickel is the Coach of the Year, his third time receiving the honor.
