BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The CSU Bakersfield sand volleyball team is making the lone out-of-state trip of its inaugural season this weekend as the Roadrunners are headed to Phoenix, Ariz. to play Grand Canyon.

The 'Runners have topped the Antelopes twice already this season and won 4-1 both times (March 14 and March 15). The teams will face each other in a team match dual on Friday morning at 11 a.m. with the 'Runners looking for a season sweep.

After the team match concludes, the 'Runners and 'Lopes will begin a two-day individual tournament. The bracket will pit each school's top eight pairs against each other in a double-elimination format. After one loss, doubles teams will drop to the consolation bracket. The championship will be held on Saturday at either 4:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.

The pairs tournament will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday. Action will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The 'Runners are 3-4 on the season in team duals. Leading the way for CSUB has been the No. 2 duo of redshirt sophomore Mariah Alvidrez (Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) and junior Shayna Guitare (Torrance, Calif., Pierce College). The pair has a 6-5 record on the season.
