NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--Mylz Jones (Fr., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) extended his hitting streak to a school record 20 games, but an error led to two runs as Cal State Northridge (13-14) came from behind to defeat CSU Bakersfield (19-10) 2-1 Monday afternoon at Matador Field.
After playing to scoreless tie through the first seven innings, the Roadrunners took the lead when Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) scored on a Cal State Northridge error in the top of the eighth.
With one out in the bottom of the frame, Josh Goossen-Brown doubled in Nate Ring and Ryan Raslowsky for the gamewinning runs. The gamewinning run was unearned as CSUB misplayed a double play ball earlier in the inning. Brown, the Northridge closer, earned his fifth save of the season with a 1-2-3 night as Dj Milam, the fourth CSUN pitcher of the day got the win.
Jones broke Jeremy Rodriguez's school record for longest hitting streak with a single in the fourth. He added his second hit of the day, a single, in the eighth. Brockmeyer had two hits. CSUB outhit CSUN 7-3 in the game.
The Roadrunners resume WAC play this weekend with a three-game series at UT Arlington beginning Friday at 4:30 p.m. (PDT).
