BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--No. 1 USC defeated CSU Bakersfield 19-6 in MPSF water polo action Saturday afternoon.

The Women of Troy scored on five of its first six possessions and did not allow a CSUB goal until 4:22 of the second period when Jessica Browning (Sr., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS) got the Roadrunners on the board. USC led 10-1 at halftime. CSUB held a 3-2 advantage in goals in the third period, but the Women of Troy outpaced the Roadrunners 7-2 in the final stanza.

Elke Daube scored a game high four goals for USC. Hannah Buckling had four. Browning led Bakersfield with a two-goal performance.

It was the first time since CSUB made the jump to Division I, a No. 1 team in a sport traveled to play the Roadrunners. The Women of Troy remain undefeated after earning a 16-5 decision over Brown later on Saturday. USC is 18-0 (4-0 MPSF). CSUB is 10-18, 0-4 in league play.

"We need to be more confident about ourselves and our abilities," said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. "We also need to understand that all of the little things really matter. Hopefully we will learn from the game and not have another performance like this."

The Roadrunners travel to the Brown Invitational next weekend in Providence, R.I.
