SACRAMENTO, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield opened its inaugural season in the Western Athletic Conference by defeated Sacramento State 4-2 Friday afternoon

Roadrunner starter Jeff McKenzie (Sr., El Dorado Hills, Calif., San Joaquin Delta College) gave up his first run in 20 innings when Nathana Lukas singled in Andrew Ayers in the bottom of the second. Bakersfield scored three times in the top of the third, twice on bases loaded walks.

The Hornets got one back in the bottom of the third when Chris Lewis drove in Rhys Hoskins with a sacrifice fly. The Roadrunners plated an insurance run in the eight on a Frank Martinez (Sr., Riverside, Calif., East LA College) RBI single. McKenzie exited after eight complete, giving way to Dylan Christensen (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College) who recorded his fifth save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

McKenzie improved to 5-1 on the year as he struck out seven and gave up six hits. Mylz Jones (Fr., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) extended his hitting streak to 13 with a single in the eighh. Christensen, Jones, Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS), and Martinez all recorded RBI's.

The series continues Saturday at John Smith Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
