BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Looking to even the season series, the CSU Bakersfield softball team is headed to Cal State Northridge to take on the Matadors in a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The 'Runners (1-12) and Matadors (9-15) faced off earlier this season at the Stanford Nike Invitational on Feb. 15 and 17 with Cal State Northridge winning the first matchup 2-1 and the second 8-0.

The first showdown between the teams this season featured a very close game with the score tied 1-1 after five innings. After the Matadors went up 2-1 in the sixth inning. The 'Runners comeback bid came up short in the seventh when they had two runners on with two outs and Amber Mills (Fr., Fresno, Calif., Clovis West) was thrown out at home plate after trying to score on an Amy Ricciardi (Jr., Chino Hills, Calif., Ayala HS) single to end the game. Ricciardi and Shay Fryer (Jr., San Diego, Calif., University HS) both collected two hits in the game.

In the second game, CSUN pitcher Shelly Tait held the 'Runners to one hit (by Fryer) in the shutout. The Matadors enter the weekend leading the all-time series against CSUB 33-16.

The 'Runners are coming off a tough weekend at the Easton Invitational at Cal State Fullerton where they lost to some tough teams including Iowa (5-3), Wisconsin (11-4), Northwestern (5-0) and No. 24 Oregon State (8-0). On Wednesday, the Matadors pulled off a 3-2 upset over No. 9 UCLA after Tanna Bindi hit a game-winning, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.

After taking on Cal State Northridge, the 'Runners will return to Bakersfield to prepare for their 2013 home-opening weekend when they will host UC Davis for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16, followed by a doubleheader with Cal Poly on Sunday, March 17. Action will begin at noon both days at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.
