BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield water polo team travels to the UC Irvine Invitational this weekend.
The Roadrunners are among the 16 entries in the tournament, 15 of which are nationally ranked in the CWPA Top 20. CSUB is seeded in Group A with No. 1 Stanford, No. 8 Hawai'i and No. 9 San Jose State. Group play begins Saturday at 9 a.m. when the Roadrunners face the Cardinal Hawai'i and San Jose play at Corona Del Mar at 10:15 a.m. The winners of the two matches will play at 2 p.m. with the losers playing at 3:15 p.m. All matches in Group A will be played at Corona Del Mar High School.
Sunday's play will be contested at either UCI or at Corona Del Mar with Saturday's results determining times and opponens.
"This will be a good opportunity to see where we are at against the top water polo teams in the country," said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. "We open up against Stanford and having played them earlier in the season, I think we will have a more confident mindset going up against their three Olympic gold medallists, knowing that we had many small successes that didn't necessarily show up on the scoreboard last time. Although we are not 100-percent healthy yet, we are better than we were the last couple weekends and I'm excited about what we can potentially do this weekend."
