PALO ALTO, Calif. - Unable to get its offense going, the CSU Bakersfield softball team fell to Cal State Northridge 8-0 in five innings on Sunday in the 'Runners' final game of the Stanford Nike Invitational.
The 'Runners were limited to one hit on the day, which came off of the bat of junior shortstop Shay Fryer (San Diego, Calif., University HS). Matador pitcher Shelly Tait posted the win with four strikeouts in five innings. Fryer is leading CSUB offensively through the first 12 games as she has posted a .300 average on the season.
Cal State Northridge (4-8) broke the game open in the second inning when it scored four runs to jump out to a 5-0 lead. It added one run in each of the next three innings to end the game early.
CSUB (1-7) ended the tournament with a 1-4 record after defeating UC Davis 2-0 on Saturday. Two of CSUB's losses came against No. 20 Stanford, while the Matadors also topped the 'Runners 2-1 on Friday.
The 'Runners will be back in action on Wednesday when they head north to take on Fresno State at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs have posted a 6-5 record on the season heading into their final game of the Gaucho Classic on Sunday, which is against San Diego
