BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield rallied from nine points down in the second half to defeat Cal State Northridge 70-62 Wednesday night. The win marked the sixth in a row for the Roadrunners.
With CSUB leading by four with 30 seconds remaining in the first half, the Matadors would outscore the Roadrunners 16-4 over the next 3+ minutes (spanning the first and second half) for the nine point advantage, Cal State Northridge's largest lead of the night. The teams would battle exchanging the lead four times and tying the score on four other occasions.
With the score knotted up a 60 at the 3:54 mark, a pair of Ciarra Ford (Sr., Long Beach, Calif., Mt. Sac College) free throws would ignite a 10-2 Roadrunner spurt that would end the game in favor of CSUB (8-15).
Amber Williams (Sr., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) and Tyonna Outland (R-So., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) both scored 22 points to pace the Roadrunners. Outland also added seven rebounds and three assists. Janae Coffee (R-So., Fresno, Calif., Long Beach State) scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked four shots. Janae Sharpe led Northridge (11-9) with 18 points and seven assists.
CSUB shot 50% (12-of-24) in the second half while hold the Matadors to 30.8% shooting for the frame (12-of-39). CSUB outrebounded Cal State Northridge 44-39 and despite turning the ball over four more times (23-19), the Roadrunners scored 24 points off of Matador mistakes.
CSUB will look to extend its winning streak to seven next Wednesday when the Roadrunners travel to future WAC foe UT-Pan American for a 7 p.m. (CST) start.
