BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield water polo team will face No. 1 Stanford and No. 6 UC Irvine during a four-match stint at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational this weekend.
The Roadrunners open the tournament with UC Irvine Saturday at 10:40 a.m. before taking on Concordia-Irvine Saturday night at 6 p.m. Sunday gets underway with a non-conference match against the Cardinal at 9:10 a.m. before completing the meet at 12:40 p.m. against Pacific.
CSUB dropped the season opener to No. 15 UC Santa Barbara 13-10 last Friday. Jessica Browning (Sr., Lake Forest, El Toro HS) scored five goals, all in the second half.
"We are looking forward to the weekend, playing two teams ranked in the top 10 in Stanford and UCI Irvine," said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. "Stanford is No. 1 and features three 2012 Olympic gold medalist on their roster. We played 13 players in our opening game vs UCSB and so as we enter a weekend in which we play 4 games in 2 days, it will be critical for us to use our depth and give ourselves the best possible chance to win each game. Although we have our core of returners from last year, we are trying to get our younger and new players experience so that when we enter our MPSF conference games, we will be ready with both experience and depth."
