BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Tyonna Outland (R-So., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) recorded 20 points and a career high 11 rebounds to lead CSU Bakersfield past Utah Valley 67-65 Saturday afternoon.
The Roadrunners led by as much as 15 in the first half and opened the second half with a nine-point advantage. The Wolverines battled back, overcoming the CSUB lead, and took a four-point lead on a Sammie Jensen three-pointer with 6:27 to play. A pair of Outland free throws made it a one-possession game before Alyssa Shannon (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale connected on a bucket a littlover a minute later to tie the score.
Outland made a layup with 4:37 remaining to put the Roadrunners back into the lead for good. Utah Valley went cold down the stretch, making one basket in the final 3:50. The Woverines turned the ball over three times in the final 2:30.
Outland was joined in double figures by Ciarra Ford (Sr., Long Beach, Calif., Mt. Sac College) who had 15 and Janae Coffee (R-So., Fresno, Calif., Long Beach State) who posted 10. Despite being hampered by foul trouble Coffee also grabbed nine rebounds in 13 minutes. Jensen, who came into the game averaging a double-double, met her standard, scoreing 19 points and nabbing 13 rebounds. Kaycee Mansfield added 18.
CSUB, the winners of four in a row, travel to future WAC opponent Chicago State Thursday night for a 7 p.m. (CST) start.
