DAVIS, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield won four events but UC Davis defeated the Roadrunners 176-113 in a women's swimming dual Saturday.
"Our team swam well today," said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. "Unfortunately, two of our biggest scores, Michaela Paige and Lily Donohue did not swim today. They are coming off an injury and the flu respectively."
Ali Gillespie (So. Huntington Beach, Calif., Oregon State) earned first place won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:07.25. Nicolette Goncalves (Fr., Mississauga, Ontario, Erindale Secondary School) won the 100 butterfly in a time of :58.22. Jeanette Dove (Jr., Fontana, Calif., UC Santa Cruz) placed first in the 200 IM (2:14.78).
Kelsey Lange (Fr.
San Jose, Calif., Santa Teresa HS), Anna Dravis (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS), Louise Westergren (Sr., Malmo, Sweden, Pro Civitas HS), and Kristin Koehler (Sr., Yucaipa, Calif., Riverside CC) won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:42.84.
"Ali Gillespie had a great 500 free, a personal best time," Hansen said. "Nicolette Goncalves Jeanette Dove also improved in their events. Both their 200 back times set them up for conference. It was great to season some of the younger swimmers step up today. This shows me the entire team is ready for the WAC championship. We knew today was going to be rough but to see the younger swimmers swim so fast was a great win for me. This team is coming together at the right time."
The Roadrunners travel to Loyola Marymount next Saturday for a tri-dual with the Lions and Cal Baptist beginning at 12 p.m.
