LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Brandon Barnes (So., Atlanta, Ga., Lipscomb) scored a team-high 20 points including 12 in the first half but 40 points in the paint and a hot-shooting night from the North Florida Ospreys was too much to handle as the CSUB Roadrunners lost 80-70 in the third round of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic Saturday afternoon at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The Roadrunners (4-9) trailed 37-30 at halftime but allowed a 8-0 run to start the half while failing to make a field goal for a seven-minute stretch between the end of the first and the start of the second half; allowing the Ospreys to build a 15-point lead and force CSUB to play catch-up for the remaining 17 minutes.

The 'Runners pulled back within nine points with 5:50 remaining following a Barnes three-pointer but the Ospreys again went on a 6-0 run to pull back up by double figures and get the eventual 80-70 win. Stephon Carter (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) added 18 points for CSUB including 11 in the first half. Defensively the Roadrunners struggled to contain the Ospreys in the post where North Florida scored 40 points including a game-high 22 from senior forward Travis Wallace.

CSUB, already thin in their rotation due to injuries received just 10 minutes of play from Las Vegas native Adam Young (Sr., Barton CC) due to illness. Tyrone White (Sr., Portland, Ore., North Idaho CC) and Javonte Maynor (R-So,. Atlanta, Ga., Georgia State) both added 11 points for the Roadrunners who shot a respectable 42% on the night from the field but allowed North Florida a 63% shooting night thanks to their high-percentage looks.

The Roadrunners will try to get the final win of the tournament Sunday afternoon when they take on Mississippi Valley State at 12:45 P.M. at The Orleans. You can hear that game on KERN Newstalk 1180 with the 'Dignity Health Shootaround Show' beginning at 12:15 P.M.
