LOS ANGELES, Calif.--A cold second half shooting performance proved to be the undoing of CSU Bakersfield as CSUB dropped a 71-59 decision to UC Davis in the second game of the USC Women of Troy Classic Saturday.
The Roadrunners missed 18 of its first 21 shots of the second half as the Aggies went on a 16-5 run that opened the Aggies' advantage. With Davis leading 55-40 midway through the session, CSUB mounted a 8-2 charge that cut the Aggies' lead to nine. That would be as close as the Roadrunners would get in the second half as UC Davis scored 10 of the next 14 points on the court for a 15-point lead. CSUB would shoot 29.4% (20-of-68) for the game.
Sydney Fipps led four Davis players in double figures with 15 points. Cebrina Johnson (R-So., Corona, Calif., Santiago HS) led the Roadrunners with 18 points, a new career high. Janae Coffee (R-So., Long Beach, Calif., Long Beach State) scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds. For her efforts during the tournament (17 points and 17 rebounds, 3 steals), Coffee was named to the All-Tournament team.
CSUB hosts UC Irvine in the back half of a home and home with the Anteaters Friday night at 7 p.m. The Roadrunners defeated UC Irvine 71-64 Dec. 9 in Irvine.
