PORTLAND, Ore.- Viva Las Vegas. But for now, Portland will do.

The CSUB Roadrunner embark on their first regular-season basketball tournament at the Division I level when they begin play in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic at the University of Portland Monday night at 7 P.M.

CSUB is part of an eight team field that will begin play Monday night as the first two rounds are being held at hosts sites before the tournament shifts to The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas this weekend.

The 'Runners (4-6) will take on Portland (4-6) at the Chiles Center Monday night before heading to Ft. Collins, Colo. to face Colorado State Wednesday night at 7 P.M. MST. The Roadrunners will then face North Florida Saturday afternoon at 2:30 P.M. The final round match up on Sunday will either be against Georgia Southern or Mississippi Valley Sunday afternoon.

CSUB enters the Portland matchup Monday night coming off a 69-49 win over the University of La Verne Saturday at the Icardo Center. The 'Runners were paced by Stephon Carter's (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) career-high 26 points on 7-11 shooting and 12-12 from the free throw line. Carter was one of four 'Runners to score in double-digits as CSUB recorded their third win in four game thus far in the month of December.

Brandon Barnes (R-Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Lipscomb) added 12 points on 5-10 from the field while Adam Young (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Barton CC) recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds as CSUB controlled the game from the opening tip.

Portland is coming off a 95-66 win over Portland Bible College in their final tune up before tournament action on Friday night. The Pilots had dropped two previous games to ranked opponents falling to #18 UNLV and #19 Kentucky last week.

The Pilots are being paced by junior forward Ryan Nicholas who is averaging 13.3 ppg and is second in the West Coast Conference with 9.9 rebounds per game. Nicholas recorded double-doubles against both UNLV and Kentucky, including a career-high 19 rebounds against the Rebels.

Carter continues to lead the 'Runners with his 15.3 ppg while both Barnes and sophomore guard Javonte Maynor (Atlanta, Ga., Georgia State) are chipping in with 12 ppg and 10.8 ppg respectively for the Roadrunners.
