BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-CSUB men's basketball returns home Saturday night to host the University of La Verne at the Icardo Center in the last home game for the Roadrunners before they embark on the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic next week.

The 'Runners (3-6) are coming off a 69-63 loss at South Dakota State in a game that went back and fourth before the Jackrabbits held off two late go-ahead three-pointers by CSUB to get the win. The 'Runners were led by Britton Williams (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) who made the most of his first collegiate start scoring 18 points and dishing out four assists while Stephon Carter (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) scored 17 points to pull into third place on CSUB's all-time scoring list.

Carter enters Saturday night's game as CSUB's leading scorer with his 14.1 ppg while shooting 41% from the field. He's also leading the Roadrunners at the free throw line with 50 attempts this season while shooting 76%. Two other 'Runners are also averaging in double figures; Brandon Barnes (R-Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Lipscomb) is averaging 12 ppg while scoring in double digits in each of the last five games for CSUB while Javonte Maynor (R-So., Atlanta, Ga., Georgia State) is averaging 11.8 ppg and shooting a team-high 40% from three-point range.

Carter's quest for the all-time scoring lead also continues Saturday night as he's currently 15 points behind Kebu Stewart for 3rd place on CSUB's scoring list.

The 'Runners will get one player back from illness as senior guard Tyron White (Portland, Ore., North Idaho CC) is set to return after missing the South Dakota State game due to a sever allergic reaction.

La Verne (1-5) is coming off a 91-44 loss at #17 UNLV Thursday night. The Leopards trailed by an average of 15 points for the majority of the game before the Rebels closed out the game on a 44-14 run to get the win.

The Leopards, an NCAA Division III squad out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, are led by sophomore guard Jordan Simmonds who is averaging 16 ppg and shooting 47% from the field and a team-best 57% from three-point range. Senior guard Jake Veith is also averaging 12.4 ppg while shooting 40% for the Leopards who have lost five straight.

This is the third meeting all-time between the two programs with CSUB winning both games when they were an NCAA Division II program. The last win against La Verne game in 1996, a 118-68 victory for the Roadrunners at the Icardo Center.

Tip off is scheduled for 7 P.M. Following Saturday's game the 'Runners begin the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic, playing at the University of Portland Monday night at 7 P.M. followed by a Wednesday game at Colorado State at 7 P.M. MST. The 'Runners then head to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas next weekend for the final rounds of the tournament where they will face North Florida Saturday afternoon at 2:30 P.M. and either Georgia Southern or Mississippi Valley State Sunday afternoon at a time to be determined.
