BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Four Golden Bears scored in double figures as No. 11 California (7-1) defeated CSU Bakersfield 84-46 Friday night in women's basketball action at the Icardo Center.
Gennifer Brandon and Brittany Boyd both scored 19 to pace Cal. Reshanda Gray and Justine Hartman each recorded 12 points. The Golden Bears made five of their first six shots as the cagers shot 50.8% for the game (30-of-59). Cal limited the Roadrunners 32.1% shooting (17-of-53) for the game. Cal used their size advantage to outrebound CSUB 48-23 and outscore the 'Runners 50-16 in the paint. Cal scored 22 points off of 22 Roadrunner turnovers. Tyonna Outland (R-So., Compton, Calif., Lynwood, Calif.) led CSUB with 12 points.
"Cal is an excellent team," said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. "We will be seeing them deep into the postseason if they continue to play the way they did tonight. I think our team played hard, but we made a lot of mistakes. Ty (Outland) did a good job of driving the lane tonight, we have been looking for her to step up like that. I'm proud of our team for playing hard until the end."
The Roadrunners travel to UC Irvine Sunday for a 1 p.m. tip.
