CSUB Drops Another Heartbreaker At Home to LMU
BAKERSFIELD,Calif.- The CSUB Roadrunners battled back from 16 points down and took a three-point lead with just over three minutes remaining but the Loyola Marymount Lions finished the game on an 8-2 run and blocked the game-tying shot with 10 seconds remaining to hold off CSUB 76-73 at the Icardo Center.
The 'Runners were led by 22 points from Stephon Carter (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) on 8-14 shooting. Carter's had his final shot blocked which led to an LMU rebound which helped put the game on ice for the Lions who improved to 2-1 on the year.
CSUB had their best offensive night of the season with three players in double figures including Adam Young (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Barton CC) and Javonte Maynor (So., Atlanta, Ga., Georgia State) who both had 12 for CSUB. The 'Runners shot a combined 26-52 for 50% from the field and 10-14 for 41% from three-point range.
CSUB trailed early in the first half as LMU built a 16-point lead with just under 10 minutes remaining. The 'Runners however didn't go away, closing the half on a 26-6 run and keeping it close enough in the second half to take a 71-68 lead with 3:40 remaining. The Lions however closed on the game on an 8-2 run to hand the 'Runners their fourth loss of the season.
The Lions also had a 36-27 rebounding advantage including 13 offensive rebounds which led to 13 second-chance points for LMU who was led by Anthony Ireland's 26 points on 8-16 shooting.
