LONG BEACH, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield men's swimming team wrapped up competition at the Arena Invitational Saturday.

Mitchell Huxhold (So., Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual HS) posted the top individual CSUB result of the meet when he finished sixth in the 1650 freestyle (15:36.10).

"This was a fast swim for Mitchell this early in the season," said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. "He is going to have a very fast February."

The 400 free relay of Gabriel Bertrand (So., Tibro, Sweden, Nykopingssimg Gymnasium), Charles Yuhas (Fr., Torrance, Calif., South HS), Fran Cverle (Jr., Zagreb, Croatia, Limestone College), and Alex Daneke (R-Sr., Lodi, Calif., UC Davis) placed ninth with a time of 3:03.09.

Bertrand won the non-scoring final of the 100 freestyle in a time of :45.51 with Cverle (:46.24, fifth in heat, 29th overall) and Yuhas (:46.33, sixth in heat, 30th overall) posting fast times in the finals of the race.

"The 100 Free was big today," Hansen said. "We needed to see some fast times while the guys are tired  and these three guys did that."

Dane Oleson (Jr., Huntington Beach, Calif., Huntington Beach HS) and Brett Emery (Fr., Sacramento, Calif., Bella Vista HS) advanced to the 200 breaststroke finals where he was second in the non-scoring final (26th overall, 2:07.84).

"Dane stepped up in a much needed event and swam a great 200 breast," Hansen said. We had a solid weekend.  We saw times that we have never done tired and we saw events like the 100 free, 1650  and he breast events get stronger! Huxhold, Bertrand, Daneke, Cverle, Cassidy, Wickensheimer and Wurm all swam faster this year!  They are showing this young team what a three day meet is about. I saw a team that will be ready come February!"

As a team, CSUB finished ninth (313). Stanford won the team scoring race (2,112). The Roadrunners are scheduled to compete at the US Nationals Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
