BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Sacramento State went on a 7-0 spurt midway through the second half as the Hornets (1-2) defeated CSU Bakersfield (1-2) in women's basketball action Friday night.
The score was tied for the ninth time at 59 when Sacramento State's game changing run began. CSUB would close to within four with just under six to play, but the Hornets would outscore the Roadrunners 13-10 down the stretch for the final seven point margin.
Fantasia Hilliard recorded a double-double of 18 points and 11 assists to lead five Sac State players in double figures. Tyonna Outland (R-So., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) scored 17 points to lead the Roadrunners. Cebrina Johnson (R-So., Corona, Calif., Santiago HS) had 16 while Amber Williams (Sr., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) scored 14. Freshman forward Batabe Zempare (Accra, Ghana, Scottsdale Chapparal HS) grabbed 12 rebounds and scored nine points.
"We made a lot of mistakes tonight," said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. "They had five players in double figures that was the difference in the game. Every time we started to get in a good rhythm, we started fouling. Offensive we struggled tonight. We need to bounce back and correct our mistakes to get ready for UC Riverside."
The Roadrunners host the Highlanders Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Icardo Center.
