MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Debora Araujo (Jr., Belo Hortizonte, Brazil, Western Community College) slammed down a match-high 14 kills to lead the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team to a 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 22-25) over Alabama State on Saturday night at Lockhart Gymnasium.

Araujo added seven digs for CSUB (9-10), Molly O'Hagan (So., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) added nine kills and Julia Bowen (Ottawa, Ontario, Wilfrid Lauer College) chipped in eight. Fernanda Gonçalves (Jr., Belo Hortizonte, Brazil, Western Community College) recorded 32 assists and Mariah Alvidrez (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) had 10 digs.

The Roadrunners started the game with a 25-19 win in the first set. The Hornets (4-20) jumped out to a 11-7 lead before CSUB went on a 10-1 run en route to the win. Set two saw seven ties before the visiting Road Runners went on a 10-5 run to build an 18-13 lead. 
The third set was close from start to finish as the two teams combined for 13 ties and seven lead changes, but it was CSUB that was able to close the game out by outscoring ASU 4-1 down the stretch to turn a 22-21 deficit into a 25-23 win.
The two teams will battle again on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
