The Roadrunners will win Thursday’s match as both teams share the same nickname. This is the first time CSUB and UTSA are playing for the first time in women’s soccer.
UT-San Antonio is 2-8-2, but won the last time out, a 2-1 decsion over San Jose State last Sunday. The victory broke a seven-match winless streak. Maria Jose Rojas and Simone Boye have combined to score four of the nine UTSA goals this season.
CSU Bakersfield (4-8-2) is at New Mexico State Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. (MDT) start. The Roadrunners and the Aggies are playing for the first time in women’s soccer. Sunday’s match will be preview of 2013 when CSUB joins the Western Athletic Conference in women’s soccer.
New Mexico State is 1-9-3, 0-2-1 in WAC play. The Aggies have struggled offensively, scoring four goals in 13 matches. The Aggies have not notched a tally since Sept. 12 when New Mexico State lost 2-1 against UTEP.
Redshirt senior Daisy Vazquez (Redwood City, Calif., Woodside HS) has reset her own school Division I record for most assists in a season with five in 2012. Vazquez recorded four assists in 2011 for the previous best mark. She has posted 11 career assists which is the seventh most in school history. The 11 assists are the most by a Roadrunner since the transition to Division I.
