LONG BEACH, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield's Gyasi Zardes (R-Jr., Hawthorne, Calif., Leutzinger HS) remains No. 1 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Top 100 Player ranking released Oct. 5.
The rankings updated TDS' preseason list with a final update being produced in the postseason. The list ranks only sophomores through seniors with a separate Top 100 ranking being announced later on in October.
The updates reflect playing performances along with various adjustments in playing time due to injuries and other reasons. The rankings are based on a wide gathering of information from those observing the college soccer scene most closely, plus publicly available statistics, conference awards and match reports.
After missing a couple of games early on due to injury, Zardes is rounding into form and beginning to show the scoring ability that has made him so coveted by observers in the next level. Zardes has scored four goals, recorded five assists for a total of 13 points through Sept. 29 matches. He is followed closely by Mikey Lopez of North Carolina, Jose Gomez of Creighton, Andre Blake of Connecticut and John Stertzer of Maryland.
CSUB hosts San Jose State Oct. 5 (7 p.m.) and Seattle Oct. 7 (1 p.m.) at the Main Soccer Field.
