The CSU Bakersfield tennis team will return to action for the first time in nearly a month as the Roadrunners will travel west to play Cal State Los Angeles on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
The 'Runners haven't played a match since March 7, when they lost to Cal State Fullerton in a close 4-3 match at Stockdale Country Club. CSUB was scheduled to play Cal State Northridge on March 18, but the contest was washed out due to rain.
CSUB (0-10) hosted Cal State L.A. earlier this year, on Feb. 4 and fell 5-2. CSUB freshman Nelli Buiuklianova (Bichkek, Kyrgyzstan, AUVK 6) and junior Julian Mannix (Santa Barbara, Calif., San Marcos HS) both recorded singles vicotries in the first match against the Golden Eagles. Cal State L.A. (10-4) is ranked No. 17 in the country at the Division II level.
Buiuklianova and Mannix have been the leaders for CSUB this season. Buiuklianova has a 5-5 record in singles matches, while Mannix is 6-3.
Pending a rescheduled match against Cal State Northridge, which is still being attemped, the match could be the final regular-season contest for the 'Runners. CSUB will then conclude its season at its first-ever Great West Conference Championships April 21-22 hosted by Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas.
