BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2009–10 Roadrunner Athletics seasons promise to be among the most exciting in CSUB history. They will mark CSUB’s third season of full NCAA Division I competition as well as its final year before all Roadrunner teams become eligible for NCAA Tournament play in 2010–11.

Before we look ahead, however, we’re asking Roadrunner fans to take a look back to the most exciting moments of the 2008–09 seasons. We're coming down to the wire as we ask Roadrunner fans to take a look back to the most exciting moments of the 2008-09 seasons. Beginning this week, our final poll asks fans to vote on the top highlights from the eight Roadrunner spring sports (m/w track & field, m/w golf, baseball, softball, tennis and water polo). When voting is completed, we will count down the three winners to reveal the top moment as voted on by the fans.

Voting is being conducted online at www.GoRunners.com. To vote, simply click on the "Fan Poll" available on any page. Spring sport voting opens today and concludes Aug. 9. The countdown of the top three moments begins Aug. 11. The top moment of the year will be revealed on Aug. 13.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Below is a list of California State University, Bakersfield top moments for the spring seasons of 2009. Please note that teams will be listed in their primary seasons of competition (e.g. swimming is a winter sport even though it crosses through parts of all three athletics seasons). The following top moments are listed in random order.


BASEBALL: CSUB Takes 3-of-5 From Defending National Champion Fresno State (Apr. 8-11, 2009)
The Roadrunners became the first-ever first-year Division I baseball team to take down a defending College World Series champion when they claimed a 4-3 win over Fresno State. CSUB won back-to-back games over the Bulldogs to claim the season series, three games to two. Each win included it's own highlight: a complete-game performance by freshman southpaw Jonathan Montoya; the most hits and runs scored to by CSUB (22 hits, 17 runs); and a walk-off, RBI-single by Brandon Boren.

MEN’S GOLF: Frey Leads CSUB To 3rd Place at Coast BMW-Nissan Inctercollegiate (Oct. 7, 2008)
Senior Adam Frey shot the season's low round of 69 at the Coast BMW–Coast Nissan Intercollegiate in Nipomo, Calif. The 'Runners finished in third place at the season–opening tournament.


TRACK & FIELD: Trojanowski’s Hammer P.R. Reaches NCAA Qualifying Standard (Apr. 16, 2009)
Senior Steve Trojanowski recorded a four-foot personal record in the hammer throw at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Norwalk, Calif., placing third in a highly competitive field. His mark of 194–feet and 11 inches would have qualified him for the NCAA Division I Regional Championships had the 'Runners been eligible.

SOFTBALL: ’Runners Score Five In Bottom of the Seventh To Beat Seattle, 8-7 (Feb. 13, 2009)
Danielle Lyman’s three-run, walk-off homer capped an epic comeback as CSUB scored five runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Seattle 8-7 at the LMU Invitational.

BASEBALL: Kudlock's 15th-Inning Walk-Off Home Run Beats UC Riverside (Apr. 11, 2009)
Jason Kudlock slammed the first pitch he saw over the left-center field fence for a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 15th inning, giving CSUB a 9-7 win over UC Riverside in the finale of a three-game series. The Highlanders scored a pair of runs in the seventh to tie the game, 7-7, then both teams went scoreless for eight innings before Kudlock's blast.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Beggs Cards Lowest Round In CSUB History (Sept. 15, 2008)
Jennifer Beggs opened play at the Aztec Fall Classic with a 3-over 75, scoring the lowest round in the three-year history of Roadrunner women's golf. The round put Beggs in a tie for third overall and the senior went on to finish 12th in the 36-hole tournament.

WATER POLO: ’Runners Upset No. 6 San Jose State (Apr. 5, 2009)
The Roadrunner water polo team earned the biggest victory in program history, knocking off then–No. 6 San Jose State, 12–11, at the Bronco Invitational. Amanda Ortiz scored four times and Shannon McKenzie scored the go–ahead goal with just 1:25 remaining. CSUB outscored the Spartans 3–0 in the fourth quarter behind great defense from Veronica Campbell, who finished with 10 blocks in goal.

TENNIS: ’Runners Defeat Siena For First NCAA Division I Victory (Feb. 24, 2009)
The Roadrunner tennis team earned its first NCAA Division I victory with a 5-2 win over Siena College. Senior Kaydee Graham’s first Division I singles win highlighted the match as she overcame a loss in the first set, roaring back for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win.
