BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield travels to UCLA this weekend for the 2017 MPSF Tournament. The Roadrunners (12-15, 0-6 MPSF) are the seventh seed and will face the second seed, Stanford (18-2, 5-1 MPSF) at 11 a.m. on Friday. The tournament will be streamed for a fee on FloSwimming.com.
The winner of the CSUB-Stanford match will advance to the semifinals and play the winner of the Friday match (12:45 p.m.) between No. 3 USC (26-2, 4-2 MPSF) and No. 6 San José State (10-17, 1-5 MPSF) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Friday's play concludes at 2:30 p.m. when No. 4 Arizona State (19-6, 3-3 MPSF) faces No. 5 California (14-7, 2-4 MPSF). The ASU-Cal winner takes on No. 1 UCLA (20-1, 6-0 MPSF) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The loser of the CSUB-Stanford match will take on the loser of the USC-San José State match Friday at 11 a.m. Sunday's play begins with the fifth place match at 11 a.m. The third place match is set for 12:45 p.m. with the championship match getting underway at 2:30 p.m.
Stanford features three United States Olympians in the lineup; Maggie Steffens (2012, 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist & tournament MVP), Mackenzie Fischer (2016 Olympic Gold Medalist), and Gabby Stone. Steffens is third in the MPSF in goals with 50. Fischer is fifth in the league in goals with 44.
Roadrunner goalie Courtney Wahlstrom has recorded 893 career saves entering this week's action. She is two away from entering the all-time top 10 in MPSF history. She is only seven away from becoming the 10th goalie in conference history from making 900 career saves. Ashley Paz has scored a team leading 43 goals for the Roadrunners this season which is the seventh most in the MPSF.
